Merry Merry Quite Contrary how does the story go?

gotta love the random conversations with friends.  sometimes they lead to nowhere, other times they lead to pure geniusness.

this is one of those times.

Brimsy, Browne and i were eating lunch.  and i asked them what “pwn” means…which urban dictionary says: Originally dates back to the days of WarCraft, when a map designer misspelled “Own” as “Pwn”. What was originally suppose to be “player has been owned.” was “player has been pwned”.

which then led to a discussion about how Browne used to play Shadowrun.  now, here is where i would normally mock him, but i don’t want to feel the bite of his acerbic wit.  so i will just smile and nod **cough cough nerd cough cough**

which then led to the question…”who were you in middle school & high school: geek, nerd, or dork?”  yeah yeah yeah, there are many variations.  but it all boils down to “geek, nerd, or dork”.  and don’t try to play the “i was a cool kid” card.  no one is cool when you’re a teenager.  we are all awkward as fuck.  if you really want to insist on  “cool kid” status…congrats.  you were the coolest of people at the most awkward stage of development.  growth spurts, acne, raging hormones, braces, voice changing and trying to figure out who you are all add up to one thing: awkward.   you must be so proud.

ok, back on topic.  geek, nerd, or dork.  i turn to trusty wikipedia to give me the definitions to help with clarity.  it is the best site to cite, and i’ll dare you to say otherwise.

GEEK:  The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as “a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc

NERD:  Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests that are age-inappropriate rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers, or will tend to associate with like-minded people.

DORK:   pejorative slang for a quirky, silly and/or stupid, socially inept person, or one who is out of touch with contemporary trends. Often confused with nerd and geek, but does not imply the same intelligence level.

i totally need this button

me?  i’m a dork all the way.  although i like to consider myself a smart dork.  “quirky and silly”…sign me up!

how about you?

hug of the day…me and a stranger.  i really love making awkward faces in the pictures.  low on the “attractive” scale, but high on the “hilarious” scale.

this one is particularly awesome because he is also making an awkward face. mine was intentional, his was not.
